Refried Beans
Ingredients:
1 pound of dry pinto beans.
2 Tbs Lard
1 Tbs Bruno's Carne Asada Mix
Instructions:
Rinse
beans clean and set them aside
Bring 1/2 gallon of water to a rolling boil on high
heat.
Add cleaned and washed beans.
Allow to boil for 15 minutes
Reduce to medium-high heat.
Allow to boil for 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Add warm
water as necessary to keep beans covered.
Near
the end of the cooking time the sauce will begin to
thicken.
When the beans are soft add 1 Tbs. of Bruno's.
Stir until well mixed.
Remove from heat when sauce is thick.
In
a 5 quart pan add 2 tbsp. of lard. You can use vegetable
oil but your beans will not be authentic and will lose
flavor
When
the lard is very hot, add the beans 1 ladle at a time
with the sauce, do not drain the beans. When one ladle
starts to sizzle, add on more ladle. Add one ladle only
after the previous one is sizzling.
After
all of the beans are added, refry for 5 minutes.
Serve
whole or mashed.
